Fitness & Worship with Courtney Jarus

I am SO excited to have a guest writer here at Not Without My Morning Coffee today.  This woman is a powerhouse.  Remember Proverbs 31:17?  It says, “She makes her arms strong”.  I wouldn’t want to get in a fight with this girl, she’d take me down.  Thankfully that’s unlikely to happen, because she has a heart of gold, and more importantly a heart for worshipping her Lord and Saviour… a big way she does this is through fitness.  Curious?  Take a read!

My name is Courtney Jarus – I am a Revelation Wellness Fitness Instructor and Weigh Less to Feed More Facilitator. I have such a passion for health and fitness, however, like many others I have struggled with body image and insecurities most of my life. In 2014, my husband and I completed P90X3 [90 day Beachbody program]. That’s when I realized the connection of physical fitness and spiritual worship. During my workouts I found that when I shifted my focus of exercise from myself to moving for God, it became a powerful act of praise and worship!

CHALLENGE – Next time you go to the gym or do your at-home workout, shift your focus onto God! Moving intentionally for Him!

The God of the Universe Made You

God blessed me with the incredible revelation that He made my body! The same God that created the sun, the moon, the skies, the Heavens and earth – that same God created me (and my body). Not only did He create me, the Bible says “You knit me together in my mother’s womb” (Psalm 139:13) I spent years trying to change my body, only to realize, how can I not LOVE my body when the God of the universe created it just the way He wanted! It’s amazing to me. We are made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). He loves our bodies and we need to learn to love them as well.

CHALLENGE – Ask God to give you this revelation. Ask Him to truly reveal how much you mean to Him, how much He loves you and your body! A deeper revelation that He made YOU!!

Caring for Our Bodies

When we love our bodies, we want what’s best for them. That includes nourishing and fuelling them with the food God created. The Bible says “everything is permissible to me but not everything is beneficial” (1 Corinthians 6:12) – we have to choose what we put into our bodies.  When we choose healthy and whole foods, our bodies function the way they were created to. Over the years I have realized, food is only fuel for my flesh – Jesus is fuel for life and satisfaction. The Bible says “Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!” (Luke 12:24) I know God is going to provide food for me, I don’t have to hoard food or binge to be filled. Be mindful and present when you eat. Being aware of when your body needs (or doesn’t need) food is important to make those healthy choices. Our bodies are all different and all require different amounts of food – it goes back to God creating them, each unique and beautiful.

CHALLENGE – Ask God to show you what He wants you to eat. Maybe He’s asking you to cut out diary or gluten, maybe He is saying eat more fruits or eat less pasta. Listen for His guidance and be ready to obey. You will find freedom the more you surrender to Him!

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
