Listen, my beloved brothers and sisters: has not God chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and [as believers to be] heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him? But you [in contrast] have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress and exploit you, and personally drag you into the courts of law? Do they not blaspheme the precious name [of Christ] by which you are called?
This passage hit me hard today. Or was it yesterday? That’s mom life, when you can’t keep track of what day your on, what you did this morning… or five minutes ago…
I was convicted.
How many times do we judge the poor? Or go the opposite direction when someone comes into church smelly or dirty.
And yet when the rich come, we get chummy with them. We want their richness to rub off on us.
This scripture says that we have dishonoured the poor man. That it is the rich who oppress and exploit.
Now I know there are rich people that love the Lord. And if that’s you, then do good with your blessing. Thank you! And keep on giving to the poor.
God has called us as believers to truly love the poor, so much to the degree that he said when we do this we are doing it to Him.
Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’
“Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’
I could end this post right here, but I think it would be fitting to sign off with an option to give into a ministry that is helping and loving the poor.
Right now there is a tragedy happening in Guatemala, a country I dearly love. The volcano Fuego (fire) erupted on Sunday and caused thousands to evacuate their homes. Last I heard about 24 lives were lost.
If you want to give to help those in need right now in this tragedy, Fe Viva World Missions has a mission’s base there and they are right now with victims helping however they can. Please click the link to donate, and just leave a note that it is to help the victims of the volcano Fuego. Kim and Lynn Weiler are good friends of mine, I have known them for years, and they will get your donation to where it is most needed.
