Happy New Year! What’s Coming Up…

Happy New Year readers!

My family and I just returned a few days ago from the warm (or was warm) Florida… now I hear it’s a bit cooler. But it can’t be nearly as bad as the -25 celsius but feels like -33 celsius weather we have here in Ontario.  It’s so cold, you walk out and you feel like you just took a huge sip of a ice cold slushy.  That’s right.  Brain freeze.  Cause you went outside.  Welcome to Canada!

I have decided that, seeing as we seem to be having a much colder than usual winter, this is a great season for me to hide away in my house with my family and write!  And read.  I’m loving this new venture of reviewing books for Bethany House.  But more than that I’m loving this new 52 week Bible reading program I’ve started.  You can down load a copy if you’d like here.  I’m pumped to read my Bible through this year.  Last year was more of a year for study of certain subjects (one being the Proverbs 31 woman).  Do you have a plan for scripture reading this year?

I have quite a few posts in the works… recipes for biscuits, maple bbq chicken, a couple of vegetarian recipes, I have new review coming your way MONDAY Continue reading “Happy New Year! What’s Coming Up…”

First Week of Jk Behind Us and A Little Announcement

Well folks, our first week of junior kindergarten is behind us.  I doubt that I have ever known a youngster to love jk more than my kid.

Seriously.  He was a bit put off that he couldn’t go tomorrow… which is Saturday.  Aren’t kids supposed to be stoked for Saturday?

From my last post you may know that J’s first day of school I was awake at 4:30 am.  You’ll be happy to know that I not only survived the day but that I also put grumpiness away around 6:30… especially once realizing that my husbands sleep was just as sabotaged as my own.  The kids slept past 7… seriously, the only time that happened all week.  And J LOVES school!  Yes!  E, our youngest, is seriously missing his older bro and I am now in full swing of finding playdates, and in full cheer up mode every morning.  It’s devastating.  I’m not sure which is harder for E… that Continue reading “First Week of Jk Behind Us and A Little Announcement”

It’s Dark Out There

I shared this song recently in a post, I’m sharing it again just because it’s that good.  And I can’t get enough of it right now.

This song talks about giving God thanks, talking about His goodness and faithfulness.

It gets me thinking.  The truth is we live in a very, very broken world.  The closer we get to Christ’s return, the more broken it seems to become.  What isn’t broken, the human race seems to break, and what’s already broken, we break further.

Good becomes evil, evil becomes good.  Isaiah prophesied of these days.

Isaiah 5:20,21 Amplified Version
Woe (judgment is coming) to those who call evil good, and good evil;
Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness;
Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!
Woe (judgment is coming) to those who are wise in their own eyes
And clever and shrewd in their own sight!

But there is a remnant.  There is hope.

Zechariah 8:5-7 Amplified Version
And the streets of the city will be filled with boys and girls playing in its streets.’ Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘If it is difficult in the eyes of the remnant of this people in those days [in which this comes to pass], will it also be difficult in My sight?’ declares the Lord of hosts. Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘Behold, I am going to save My people from the east country and from the west

We need God, church.  To think we can press on in these last days unscathed without Christ is foolishness.  We need Jesus more Continue reading “It’s Dark Out There”

Why An Inspirational Blog?

With so many blogs out there (lifestyle, training, fitness, finance, food, DIYs, to name a few) it really took me a while to determine what kind of blog this was going to be.

So why an Inspirational Blog?

I’m so glad you asked!

My hope is that every time someone finishes reading one of my posts, they feel encouraged.  With so much negativity and turmoil in the world, I feel this is my little spot to speak life.  That doesn’t mean that I will necessarily shy away from talking about hard things, but my hope is that I can bring a different perspective.

I love reading – the Bible, I read a fair bit of fiction (when time allows), I enjoy devotionals, and teaching books (John & Lisa Bevere are some of my favourite teachers/authors, along with Joyce Meyer and others).  I find a lot of the Christian fiction I read is labeled “inspirational fiction”, but the most inspiring thing I have ever read is Continue reading “Why An Inspirational Blog?”

A Granola Bar Recipe You Have to Try

This week I made more big, healthy, meals than usual.  I really enjoyed getting creative, although by Thursday I wanted to make lime coconut chicken (an original recipe, coming soon), which is a bit of a Thai inspired dish, but I was tired of rice… so instead, I made my potato wedges (which I realized I need to revise for you all, it’s 1/4 cup of mayo not 1/2 cup). So we had sautéed vegetables, lime coconut chicken… and potato wedges.  Random, but everything tasted great (if I do say so).

The kids ate way better than ever, which made me think I need to have them try new things more often, even if they do douse it with ketchup and plumb sauce.

I also did a bit of baking.  Last night, a banana loaf, and Thursday I made these amazing granola bars from the Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond.  If you haven’t checked out her blog, you are missing out.  Her recipes are incredible, and her blogs are great to read.  You may have seen her on the food network.

Anyway, if you decide to make these granola bars (click for full recipe) I made them my own a little, here’s what I did:

  1. After adding the hot ingredients mix (which I added about 2 Tbs of butter to) to the dry ingredients, I added about 1/2 a cup of chocolate chips, which then melted.
  2. I also used parchment paper instead of tin foil on my cookie sheet and buttered it really well, and added chocolate chips on top rather than dipping them (chocolate…enough said).
  3. I only had them in the oven for 20 minutes (I have found in the past they get to crunchy if left longer).  Then you have to let them cool completely (she says this on her blog, but I never took her advice and cut too soon), then remove the entire parchment paper from cookie sheet so you can cut the bars on the counter.

Try her recipe!  So yummy, and a healthy snack (minus the chocolate…).  I wish I could say my kiddos liked these, but their tastebuds are still in development and don’t know what’s good for them.

In other words, this is for you, not the kids.  My husband asks for these on a pretty regularish basis.

Happy weekend!

PS – Make sure you store the wheat germ in the fridge, it will last way longer.

How Being Unsatisfied Can Lead To a Lack of Wisdom | Looking at Ecclesiastes Chapter 1

Other Reading: Ecclesiastes 1

I had planned to read through my Bible this year, but then I realized the Lord was directing me to instead do more Bible study.  To take topics, or even whole books of the Bible and study them more than I have ever before.

I’m really excited about it.  The book of the Bible I’m studying first (in addition to the Proverbs 31 series still in progress here at Not Without My Morning Coffee) is Ecclesiastes.  There is also a word the Lord has pressed upon my heart, which I will not mention at this time, but it will be appearing more on this blog in the days and months to come.

Ecclesiastes isn’t a book I’ve spent a lot of time in, but it has caught my attention now. Continue reading “How Being Unsatisfied Can Lead To a Lack of Wisdom | Looking at Ecclesiastes Chapter 1”

Wrapping up 2016 | 7 Of My Favourite Posts of the Year

In 2008 I started a blog.  I posted here and there, and a few years later not at all.  Then earlier this year, I decided to start a brand new blog, by the Lord’s leading.

See my old blog was getting 3000 views per month before I switched blogging platforms.  That was earlier this year.  It was a bit of a faith walk to decide to start over, but this is what I felt I needed to do.  So here I am, starting fresh, but having a lot more tools at my disposal with wordpress.

My second post, back in June of this year, was called Seek Him First… seeking God first is a theme I so desire to be threaded through this blog.  Not Without My Morning Coffee is a place I hope people will walk away from feeling hopeful, inspired, and most of all pointed back to Matthew 6:33 (But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you).
