A Teaser

I’ve been quiet for a while here in the blogging world, but it’s not for lack of writing, I assure you.  My love of writing isn’t going anywhere soon, that’s for sure.

I’m not ready to tell all about the project I’m working on, but I’m going to start giving some teasers.  Here’s one:

research 1910-1920.jpg

Do you ever find yourself saying “oh how I wish I had paid more attention in high school”?  Well, I am finding myself saying this: “why didn’t I love history back then”.  Kind of like when I was in my early twenties traveling the world doing missions work… I didn’t do well in Geography class, but after all my travel and love of geography now, I would have been a Geography nut.

In a good way.

Pay attention in school, kids 😉

So here I am reading these books about amazing people that walked this country not that long ago…  If you haven’t figured it out from the names of those titles, I’m researching 1914-1920 ish.  Over the Great War (or World War I for Continue reading “A Teaser”

Happy New Year! What’s Coming Up…

Happy New Year readers!

My family and I just returned a few days ago from the warm (or was warm) Florida… now I hear it’s a bit cooler. But it can’t be nearly as bad as the -25 celsius but feels like -33 celsius weather we have here in Ontario.  It’s so cold, you walk out and you feel like you just took a huge sip of a ice cold slushy.  That’s right.  Brain freeze.  Cause you went outside.  Welcome to Canada!

I have decided that, seeing as we seem to be having a much colder than usual winter, this is a great season for me to hide away in my house with my family and write!  And read.  I’m loving this new venture of reviewing books for Bethany House.  But more than that I’m loving this new 52 week Bible reading program I’ve started.  You can down load a copy if you’d like here.  I’m pumped to read my Bible through this year.  Last year was more of a year for study of certain subjects (one being the Proverbs 31 woman).  Do you have a plan for scripture reading this year?

I have quite a few posts in the works… recipes for biscuits, maple bbq chicken, a couple of vegetarian recipes, I have new review coming your way MONDAY Continue reading “Happy New Year! What’s Coming Up…”

Out of the Ordinary – That doesn’t Even Cover it (A Book Review)

out_of_the_ordinary_blogger_review

Well.

I’m not sure I was prepared for this book.  I mean, I have read many historical fiction pieces.  In fact, historical fiction might just be my favourite genre.  But this novel fell under more than one category.  Mystery, romance and comedy would definitely have worked as well.

Out of the Ordinary is the first novel I’ve read by author Jen Turano.  The next time I’m looking for a light read, one that is sure to have me laughing out loud and all but forcing my husband to hear the odd line or two, I might just have to see what else she has come out with.  I won’t have to look far, since Out of the Ordinary is actually second in the Apart From the Crowd series.   The debut book to the series (in case you want to pick it up) is called Behind the Scenes.  Unfortunately I didn’t have time to get my hands on that one before reading the sequel, so I was at a bit of a disadvantage.  However, I was caught up to speed easily by the author’s great ability to pull the reader along and fill in any blanks I was wondering about.

Are you wondering why I wasn’t prepared for this book?  I guess this is a good moment for a spoiler alert Continue reading “Out of the Ordinary – That doesn’t Even Cover it (A Book Review)”

Fiction Readers, Check This Out!

This is one of those moments when I probably should be getting some shut eye while the two year old with the leaky nose is napping, BUT I just have to take a moment to post this.

I know I have been neglecting my blog, but trust me it is not without good cause.  And I have some good stuff coming up.

I won’t go into all the details, but between my eldest starting school (how did that actually make us busier?), my hubbie’s crazy travel for work schedule, our commitments at our amazing church, and then me having lasik eye surgery between his trips (yay!  I’ll write about that later), things have been a little nuts and to be honest, I have chosen sleep over writing.  Sometimes I write in my mind while I’m drifting off to la la land, but somehow that doesn’t transfer to the blog so easily.  Is there an app for that?  I wish…  All this plus, I got a little hooked on a fun book series I am reading by Lauraine Snelling (Dakotah Treasures).  Which brings me to this….

I’ve been keeping a secret until now.  I have become a book reviewer for Bethany House!  Yes, that’s right, they send me books, I read the books, and I tell YOU about the books.  A-mazing!

And I just received my first book to review!  It’s called Out of the Ordinary by Jen Turano.

I’ll have that posted in a few weeks.  So!  If you’re a Christian fiction fanatic like me (especially historical fiction), then stay tuned!

In the meantime, I am going for a catnap before making pizza dough to rise, followed by picking up J from school.  I have a devotional coming soon too, it’s in my head begging to be transferred here.  I can’t wait to share it with you!

First Week of Jk Behind Us and A Little Announcement

Well folks, our first week of junior kindergarten is behind us.  I doubt that I have ever known a youngster to love jk more than my kid.

Seriously.  He was a bit put off that he couldn’t go tomorrow… which is Saturday.  Aren’t kids supposed to be stoked for Saturday?

From my last post you may know that J’s first day of school I was awake at 4:30 am.  You’ll be happy to know that I not only survived the day but that I also put grumpiness away around 6:30… especially once realizing that my husbands sleep was just as sabotaged as my own.  The kids slept past 7… seriously, the only time that happened all week.  And J LOVES school!  Yes!  E, our youngest, is seriously missing his older bro and I am now in full swing of finding playdates, and in full cheer up mode every morning.  It’s devastating.  I’m not sure which is harder for E… that Continue reading “First Week of Jk Behind Us and A Little Announcement”
